Report Viewer Toolbar Style messed up
When I run a report from Report Manager or from a URL using the ReportViewer
the toolbar looses all styling - it runs down over several lines. I am using
RS 2005 and have also got a RS2000 set-up where we don't have this problem. I
have tried to put in the reference to the stylesheet in the URL access but it
hasn't done anything. Anyone know what the problem could be here? Everything
else in RS2005 works fine.
I also have a problem with Dundas Charts. When accessing the reports via a
URL the charts display if I put in &rc:Toolbar=True but if I put
&rc:Toolbar=False then the Charts don't display and I get a box with a red
cross in it. On the report there are also some tables of data and these
display in both cases.
Any answers to the above much appreciated!
Thanks
RichardHi Richard -
Did you ever get this sorted out? I'm having the same problem, too. I do
have a feeling this is a Win2K3 issue, but just want to guidance as to what
it could be.
Microsoft dudes -- any ideas here?
Thanks,
Brent

Report Viewer through SOAP webservices
I want to use report viewer throught SOAP webservices. How to do this?
I dont want to use the URL access. I want to use reportviewer control and

Advance thanks for help.

J.SingaraveluSetup Instructions for ReportViewer
Before you can run and examine the code for the ReportViewer sample ASP.NET
server control, several components and tools must be installed.
After you follow the instructions for installation and configuration of the
items listed in the prerequisites section, you can view the sample by using
Visual Studio .NET.
Important Sample applications should not be connected to or used with
your production SQL Server database or your report server without the
permission of the system administrator.
Prerequisites
In addition to being familiar with Visual Studio .NET and either C# or
Visual Basic, to use ReportViewer you must install or verify the
installation of the following items on your development system:
a.. Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003.
b.. Microsoft .NET Framework version v1.1.4322.
c.. The Reporting Services samples. You can choose to install the samples
during Reporting Services setup. To install the samples, select
Documentation and Samples on the component feature tree during setup. For
more information, see Selecting Components of Reporting Services to Install.
d.. A report server that you have permission to access on your network, if
you plan to use the sample server control to view reports on a Web Forms
page.
Note ReportViewer may be converted to compile and run in previous
versions of Visual Studio .NET. However, it is designed specifically to be
compatible with the version mentioned in this section.
Install Location
After the prerequisite components and tools are installed, you can begin
using ReportViewer. By default, the ReportViewer server control is installed
to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting
Services\Samples\Applications\ReportViewer. To begin using the sample, open
the ReportViewer sample application solution file, ReportViewer.sln, using
Visual Studio .NET. For more information, see Using the ReportViewer Server
Control.

Report Viewer Sort and Drill Through
displaying the initial report fine. However if we create a sort link on any
table header name or create a link on some data returned for a drill though
the new report renders outside the Iframe, outside the framework, and renders
as if you had called a URL report.
Is there any solution for a link within the report viewer Iframe that will
render to the iframe?
Anything would help,
Thank you,I had the same problem as you, sort of.
The solution is to modify the ReportViewer control. In the Render method,
assign a name to your IFrame.
output.WriteAttribute("name", "reportFrame");
On the BuildUrlString() add the rc:LinkTarget device info to point to your
IFrame.
this._url = this._serverUrl + "?" + this._reportPath +
"&rs:Command=Render&rc:LinkTarget=reportFrame" +
this.EmumProperties(this._properties);
Hope this helps.

The drill through works fine and the FIRST time I sort a column works great.
However, the second sort in the same iframe seems to loose the iframe
identifier therefore rendering outside as if it was a URL rendered report as
before. Any suggestions?
Thank you again, we are a step closer!

never had the problem before, as the new report would always show on the
dessignated IFrame.
However, on a new report, with multiple levels of drill-throughs, I am now
faced with the same problem as you. The first level would still show on the
IFrame, but the second would always show on _top.
I'm trying to fix this and will surely let you know if a solution comes up.
If you do find a solution, I would really appreciate if you could post it
too.
Thank you.

Report Viewer Redistribution
I am creating a .NET WinForm app and would like to include the files required for the ReportViewer component (SP1). Can someone tell me where I can find these files? Also, can I simply drop these files in the folder where the rest of my app is going to reside, or does an installation have to take place?

Report Viewer Question
to display reports. I installed the ReportViewer control and set the
appropriate URL and report path. When I open the page, I first get a popup
to enter the password (is there a way to avoid this?) and then I get what
looks like a report manager window on the screen. I have to navigate to my
reports, select the one I want and then click on the "Full Screen" icon to
see the report.
How can I get a page to simply present the report when opened?
WayneIs the RS installed on SQL 2000 DB RS 2005 or RS 2000. If you are going to
use the new controls to display reports you need to have RS 2005 installed
(which can use a SQL Server 2000 DB, that is what I am doing).
If you want it hardcode during design then using the for Report Path (click
on the upper right of the control to fill in the report tasks) put in
something like this: /MyFolder/MyReport not sure if case sensitive but it
could be. For your server this is what I have: http://Myserver/ReportServer

report viewer not behaving as expected
i'm using ms ReportViewer which was provided. heres the deal, in my report
parameters if i leave "prompt" empty and unchecked "allow null value" and
click in preview, i do not see the parameters being shown at the header.
WHICH IS WHAT I WANT. GOOD. but then, if i were to use the report viewer in
the web enviroment, and having set Parameters=true OR false makes not
difference... with true it still shows the parameter as textbox and if i set
it to false, my other parameter will not be visiable. so i NEED to set it to
TRUE.
can someone please advice me?
thanks.
Asha.You need to go to the properties tab of the report in ReportManager. Click
the parameters sub tab. For the parameter you want hidden, make sure
'Prompt User' is checked and that there is no prompt string.

Report Viewer not available in VB Express?
I'm trying to use report viewer controls, but the controls do not appear in the toolbox. The file reportviewer.exe was not in the location specified in the help files, but I have downloaded it, and when I try to add it to the toolbox, I get the message 'ReportViewer.exe' is not a .Net module. Should there be a .dll somewhere? Is it not possible to use this control w/ VB Express / SQLExpress?
ReportViewer.exe contains the dlls for the controls. You need to run it to extract the dlls, and install them in the GAC. See http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms251723(VS.80).aspxReport Viewer Jump to URL error after drilldown
Hello,
I'm using an ASPX page + ReportViewer + remote report with drilldown and Jump to Url (target _blank) in IE 6.
The ReportViewer's property AsyncRendering is set to true.
After drilldown, if i click on the text with the navigation action "Jump to Url", i have this error message in IE : Javascript Error : can't execute code from a freed script.
The jump to URL "works", but not in a "blank" page (in the same page of the ReportViewer).
If the the ReportViewer's property AsyncRendering is set to false, "Jump to Url" works fine (in a new IE page). But my report is very large, and i need the AsyncRendering set to true.
The only solution i found is to use IFrame with direct URL access to ReportServer, instead of ReportViewer.
I would prefer to use ReportViewer, so if someone as an idea of this problem, many thanks for is help !
Thanks,
Frederic
I am having the same error that Frederic is having. not only that my web page is loading within the report viewer I am getting the same script error. When I set AsyncRendering =false, the script error goes away and web page loads correctly( in the same browser); however, my report is centered in the report viewer and I have to scroll to the right to see it. Everytime I expland or collapse the focus changes and I can't see the report unless I scroll to the right(that's annoying)
I am working with local reports since the data for my report come from class objects. I am not publishing my reports to the report server. Is there a way to accomplish this with Frames without the report viewer? If so please let me know. I have been having this problem for 2 weeks now and I am not finding any resolution for it.
I will appreciate any help I coul get with this.
Thanks in advance,
Mini

Frederic,
Can you tell me how you got it to work with IFrame. I cant't get it to open an external link.
thanks
Mini
|||Hi Mini,
I'm using a Report Server, not a local report, that's why instead of using ReportViewer i can use an IFrame with an URL to my ReportServer.
In the ASPX page i have declared :
<iframeid="frameRS"runat="server"src="http://localhost/ReportServer?/ReportFolder/Report1&rs:Command=Render&rc:LinkTarget=blank"width="100%"height="100%"></iframe>In this exemple, the Report Server is local (localhost/ReportServer).
It's possible to change the value of the src property (C# exemple in the .aspx.cs file) :
protected
void Page_Load(object sender,EventArgs e){
this.frameRS.Attributes["src"] ="http://localhost/ReportServer?/ReportFolder/Report2&rs:Command=Render&rc:LinkTarget=blank";}
Unfortunately, i'm not sure that you can use this solution with a local report.
Bests regards,
Frederic
|||I managed to get my report loaded into the Frame and executed the hyperlink. However I am encountered with a new problem
My report is pretty wide and the report is not showing all of it to the right. I know my frame width is 100% thus I am not getting the scrollbar but some how part of the report on the right is missing. I am thinking it is not being returned from the report server. Howerver if I directly go to the server and run it, I see it all
Any idea what is going on
Thanks

Report Viewer Date Format..
Hi,
I have done a report using the reportviewer page, and placed it in my web application and the last thing i need to do is sort out the date formats, primarily to a UK time..
1. I want to display todays date on the page, but in the format "Wednesday, 4 April 2007". I seem to be able to get the various parts needed, but not put them together in the same textbox, could someone help me with the concatonation?
=WeekdayName(Weekday(DateValue(DateString)))
2. All the dates extracted from the database are in the format MM/dd/yyyy, and i need them to be in dd/MM/yyyy, i am completely lost on how to do this...
any help will be much appreciated, even if you could tell me where i can go look up the syntax for this markup
regards
Chris
check this for all posible date formats:http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8kb3ddd4.aspx

cheers for the link, don't know why i was having such a hard time finding it..
anyway, all sorted now, in the end i didn't do any sort of concatenation, but instead just used =FormatDateTime(Now(), 1)
and the other days were as easy as putting dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm in the fomrat field, nice
cheers!
sqlReport Viewer control Javascript error with empty report
I'm having an issue with the reportviewer control for vs2005. I've tried both local and remote reports and it's the same for both... but here's the issue. I have a group of parameters that are passed from the page into the report to filter out the data, simple. Problem is if the parameters cause no data to be returned, then i get a javascript error 'Object required' on line 13 char 692 of page Reserverd.ReportViewerWebControl.axd
I've looked in google to see if there has been anyone else with this issue and haven't found anything. I've checked IIS to make sure that the file manager for axd does not have the check box 'check if exists'. Any help would be greatly appreciated
TIA
Jeff Dupont
HI, Jeff:
I suggest that you can set the default value of the parameter:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/06/06/datapoints/default.aspx
I hope the above information will be helpful. If you have any issues or concerns, please let me know. It's my pleasure to be

Report Viewer Control in Local Mode ?
I run my reports in local mode and do something like this :
Code Snippet
//Local Processing mode for Reports
reportViewer.ProcessingMode = ProcessingMode.Local;
// Set RDL file based on handout/grid selected
if (gridRadioButton.Checked)
{
reportViewer.LocalReport.ReportPath = "Grid.rdlc";
}
else
{
//Handout
reportViewer.LocalReport.ReportPath = "Handout.rdlc";
}
//Refresh the report in order to show it to the user.
reportViewer.RefreshReport();
The problem is that both handout and grid is diiferent, Say User Selects the grid once it always shows the grid report. Even second time you change to handout still it shows the same Grid format and I debugged it and it picks the new report path but doesn't help? The application needs to be rerun to fix it.
Can anyone explain what is causing this and how to get rid of it.
Thanks,
Harsimrat
There are a couple of things you need to do:
1) I assume that the user can move back and forth between the reports at will? Not just change once? Therefore you should be checking to see if the user has actually *changed* before doing the appropriate reinitialization (IOW, do a comparison between current and new values)...
2) Reinitialization looks something like this:
Use the ReportViewer.Reset() method -- this is probably the bit you are missing Set the appropriate ReportPath, assuming these are not embedded resources, otherwise you want to set that Rebind the datasources -- this may or may not be required|||I tried adding Reset() and then it tells me cannot find the dataset. But without Reset() it runs fine. I think I need to rebind it somehow as my initial binding is done automatically. If you can please give an code example ?|||Um, I did say you probably needed to re-bind... I think...
I would forget about the "automatically" bound altogether if you are switching between reports. But this is one of the reasons I told you to check to see whether they had actually *switched* reports -- because you don't want to do the reset and rebind if they have chosen the same report twice in a row. Does that make sense?
I will show you a code example in two parts. The first part shows you where I am actually refreshing the data, previous to changing the report. In my case the procedures for doing so are different depending on whether the source is a local XML file or from a data server --
I will pseudo code some parts of it that are not relevant to you... but this happens to be the reason why I need to switch reports in this particular form.... it doesn't matter that your reason is different, as it will still give you the idea of what you need to do, even in cases (like mine) that the datasets might be entirely different.
Code Snippet
If tsSourceIsServerInfo Then
Me.GetDataSetFromServer()
If [...] the last time they used a different report Then
Me.ReinitializeViewer(tThisReportName)
Else
Me.ReportViewer1.Visible = True ' it might not have been previously
End If
Else
Me.DataSet1.Reset()
Me.DataSet1.ReadXml(tsSource)
If [...] the last time they used a different report as above Then
Me.ReinitializeViewer(tThisReportName)
Else
Me.ReportViewer1.Visible = True
End If
End If
' carry on with initializing params here, then
Me.ReportViewer1.RefreshReport()
OK so far?
You see that the re-initialization is only done where necessary. Now for what happens inside the initialization:
Code Snippet
Private Sub ReinitializeViewer(ByVal tsReport As String)
Dim ReportDataSourceX = _
New Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportDataSource()
Me.ReportViewer1.Reset()
Me.ReportViewer1.LocalReport.ReportEmbeddedResource = tsReport
' change above line to
' Me.ReportViewer1.LocalReport.ReportPath = tsReport
' if not embedded
If tsReport is a certain report Then
ReportDataSourceX.Name = "Appropriate name for the data set for it"
ReportDataSourceX.Value = Me.BindingSourceDatabase
Else
ReportDataSourceX.Name = "Appropriate name here"
ReportDataSourceX.Value = Me.BindingSourceXML
End If
Me.ReportViewer1.LocalReport.DataSources.Add(ReportDataSourceX)
Me.ReportViewer1.Visible = True
End Sub

Report Viewer - tell it not to run until parameters are entered
I've added a parameter of startdate
How do I change the properties of the ReportViewer control so that it waits
for the date input, and doesn't try to run when the page is loaded?
I keep getting this error when running the page:
a.. The property 'DefaultValue' of report parameter 'StartDate' doesn't

The easiest way to control the automatic running of the report is to
modify the SSRS report itself to not have a default value (set Default
Values to Null) for the startdate parameter. This should follow
through to the report viewer control. Hope this helps.

Report Viewer
I'm using Visual Studio Beta 2
I have few questions about the ReportViewer WinForm Control.
When rendering a Server Report the Print button appears disabled is this by
design?
Also the Print Preview button is enabled but it does not do anything is this
also by design?
Any help is appreciated!!!
LuigiHi,
I am also facing the same problem. Without the print option the report is of
no use for our client. Please help on urgent basis.

Report spills over reportviewer
Hi everyone,
I've got a report that works and looks just how I want it to. However, it seems to spill over the bottom edge of the reportviewer, along with it's scrollbar. I set a border on the reportviwer, and the report spills over this at the bottom. Only by a small amount though, but it looks unprofessional. Has anyone encountered this / know how I can maybe fix this?
Thanks
Hello,
I guess it is related to AsyncRendering property, Please set to false and see that help. By default it is set to true. I had a similar problem and i had to set false in .aspx code.You can always set to true before rendering.
this.ReportViewer1.AsyncRendering = true;
this.ReportViewer1.ServerReport.Refresh();
Hope this help!
|||Hi,
thanks for your reply, but setting AsyncRendering to false made it worse! It doubled the height of the reportviewer, which then dropped off the entire page, including the whole page design!
thanks for trying anyway. ANy other ideas?
anyone else got any ideas?

report server parameters
Hi!
I have a report (*.rdl) in my report server, and this report calls a dataset (by an ObjectDataSource of the reportviewer) that has query parameters. I try to run the report but the following error appears:
I read that, when you create dataset parameters that the report should inherits these parameters automatically. And when you upload the file into the report server, when you select it in the report manager and see its properties, it should appear a link of parameters.
But my report doesn't inherits the dataset parameters automatically, I tried to do it manually using the properties window of visual studio, but It does show the link of parameters in the report manager.. but doesn't link the report parameters with the dataset query parameters.
I don't know if the problem is that I am using SQL server Express, because the Report Builder doesn't work properly (with all its functions)
So, is there a way of solve this using SQL server express? Or I need SQL server 2005?
If there's nothing to do with the server.. then how can I made the link between dataset and report item using visual studio?
Thanks! Any suggestion will help me a lot!
I also did have that sometimes. There is a refresh button at the dataset icons which will populate the used paramters from the dataset to the reports automatically. I always do the following, executing the query, then refreshing the reports to have the whole thing in sync and thats it. If this is a sql exeception brought to you by the SQL Server, it could be that you are using a variable in a dynamic sql statement which is not defined in the dyna′mic sql scope. Make sure that this does not apply.HTH, Jens Suessmeyer.

Hi thanks for answering....
I have a query in my dataser similar to this...
select field1, field2 from table where field3 = @.param1
is this a dynamic sql statement? and where do I have to defined it for it to be in a dynamic sql scope?
I already try what you said about refreshing the datasources and then refreshing the report, but it doesn't populate the parameters to the report....
I am using visual basic. net web development I don't know if its diferent....

It did help me! Thanks!
I had that same problem. I noticed in the Dataset designer you can add fields and parameters. Sometimes it fills them in automatically sometimes it doesn't.

Report rendering in webform
Currently I display report in my webform (website) using
Reportviewer.ReportURL method which fetch report from Report Manger through
Http:// port. which takes too much to rendering report.
Is there any method through which I can render report in my webpage through
reprot API or something like that so that it doesn't fetch report through
http port and rendering time should be fast.
Thanks in Advance.Kam,
I am curious as to how you determined that using HTTP-GET causes the slow
performance? Did you look at how long it takes for the database query to be
processed, report to be generated and rendered?
Requesting your reports via HTTP-GET is the fastest way to generate them.
Think of the Report Server (not Report Manager) as a web application. Your
request/response total latency consists of submitting the report request to
the Report Server, querying the database, generating the report, rendering
the report, sending the report payload to the Report Viewer (browser), and
displaying the report in the browser. From this latencies, you should focus
on minimizing the time it takes to query the database and generate the
report.
Here is a tip: use the RS Execution Log to find out how much the Report
Server spends querying, generating and rendering your report.

Hope this helps.

The RS Execution Log is stored in the ExecutionLog table in the RS
ReportServer database. For analyzing its data easier, you need to install
the Execution Log DTS package. Check the Rs documentation for the following
topics:
- Report Server Execution Log
- Querying and Reporting on Report Execution Log Data

Hope this helps.
