Report wizard format templates

Are the style templates offered by the Report Wizard accessible somewhere? Can I add my own standard templates (beyond the bold, casual, corporate, etc.)?
Thanks,
Warren ThornthwaiteStyle definitions be found in %Program Files%\Microsoft SQL
Server\80\Tools\Report Designer\Business Intelligence
Wizards\Reports\Styles\<Language> folders.
You can add your own style and it should be picked by report wizard.

Report Viewer Reverse Proxy

I was wondering if anybody knew anything about the ReportUrl QueryString
parameter and if it requires a certain format.
I'm currently attempting to write a reverse-proxy HttpHandler for accessing
reports in SSRS 2005. I'm doing it this way for three reasons: 1) We have to
use VS2003, 2) Users don't have direct access to the database server (and
thus SSRS via URL access), and 3) I like the report viewer and want to avoid
cloning it with my own. I am very close to succeeding and promise, if
successful, to post the resulting code here.
I've currently got the main page loading, the wait page loading, and all
images loading, but I'm getting a (500) Internal Server Error when the actual
report attempts to load in the iframe. The event log shows the following
info:
Exception information:
Exception type: HttpHandlerInputException
Exception message: ReportUrl
I've made my own HttpHandler and also named it
Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl (via web.config), so the only difference
between my URL and a normal URL is the addition of a virtual directory name.
It looks like this:
http://ServerName/VirtualDirectoryName/ReportServer/Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd?OpType=DocMapReport&ClientController=ClientControllerReportViewerControl&ReportUrl=%2fVirtualDirectoryName%2fReportServer%2fReserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd%3fExecutionID%3dmjuze0ni4lyf4v55cebmh2mr%26ControlID%3d03b34cbd-599e-4c7d-a19d-854cd1c7eec6%26Culture%3d1033%26UICulture%3d9%26ReportStack%3d1%26OpType%3dReportArea%26Controller%3dClientControllerReportViewerControl%26PageNumber%3d1%26ZoomMode%3dPercent%26ZoomPct%3d100%26ReloadDocMap%3dtrue%26EnableFindNext%3dFalse%26LinkTarget%3d_top
Whew. If I take out the virtual directory name it works fine, but that's
because it now references the actual reporting services installed locally on
my box (it gets an rsExecutionNotFound error). Does anybody know if there's
a known issue with sticking a virtual directory in the ReportUrl? Thanks in
advance for the info, and please chime in if you have any suggestions.
- DaveHello Dave,
From your description, you are developing a custom httphandler that will
help get SSRS report from SSRS reportserver and display to other client
user through ASP.NET web application, however, you are encountering some
problem with the reportURL used in the handler, correct?
As for your own custom handler, what is the code logic of it, do you simply
copy the Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.HttpHandler(built-in) class's code
logic? Based on my research, the following URL
========/ASPNET/V2/WebSites/PostPageSite/Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd?OpType=DocMapReport&ClientController=ClientControllerReportViewer1&ReportUrl=/ASPNE
T/V2/WebSites/PostPageSite/Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd%3fReportSessi
on%3dr1hwjmr1e5e5moygaqmwpu45%26ControlID%3d0f59883b-da9b-4044-add7-99bcd496
eeb4%26Culture%3d2052%26UICulture%3d1033%26ReportStack%3d1%26OpType%3dReport
Area%26Controller%3dClientControllerReportViewer1%26PageNumber%3d1%26ZoomMod
e%3dPercent%26ZoomPct%3d100%26ReloadDocMap%3dtrue%26EnableFindNext%3dFalse%2
6LinkTarget%3d_to
=============
is dedicated for the Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.HttpHandler handler and
is not documented. IMO, if you want to write a custom handler than will
retrieve report from backend SSRS server and stream it to front end client,
you can consider use the SSRS 2005's webservice to request and render
report. Actually, the ReportViewer control internally also use the SSRS
2005 webservice to access the report.
If you do want to inspect the ReportUrl used by ReportViewer control and
the axd handler, you may use reflector to investigate the reportviewer and
the handler's code. I've performed some view and find that it is the ""
class which do the DocmapReport render task. It has the following code
logic to parse the querystring:
#In the "Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.DocMapReportPageOperation" class
==============public override void PerformOperation(NameValueCollection urlQuery,
HttpResponse response)
{
DocMapReportPage page1 = new DocMapReportPage();
page1.ReportAreaUrl = HandlerOperation.GetAndEnsureParam(urlQuery,
"ReportUrl");
if
(!page1.ReportAreaUrl.StartsWith(HttpHandler.HandlerUri.Uri.PathAndQuery,
StringComparison.OrdinalIgnoreCase))
{
throw new ArgumentOutOfRangeException("ReportUrl");
}
page1.ClientController = HandlerOperation.GetAndEnsureParam(urlQuery,
"ClientController");
HandlerOperation.EnsureValidJavascriptIdentifier(page1.ClientController);
HttpContext.Current.Server.Transfer(page1, true);
}
==============
Hope this helps some.
Sincerely,
Steven Cheng

This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.|||Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your post gave me the exact clue I needed -
namely that the ReportUrl parameter is validated in some way and URL paths
are compared. I made some adjustments in my code to kind of "trick" SQL
Server into thinking it was using a ReportUrl whose path matched the server's
URL and it worked great!
For your info, I'm using HttpWebRequest and HttpWebResponse objects to
create a kind of reverse proxy server. I was thinking of abandoning this
path and going with the web service, but I originally tried to access things
this way because I liked the Report Viewer and didn't want to write code to
"clone" its toolbar. From what I've read in the docs, if you use web service
access to get your report you have to write your own viewer GUI. I
originally thought I could save some time by writing a quick and dirty
reverse proxy, but quickly found I was in for some whole new troubles.
Anyway, my code is now properly retrieving the report and displaying it.
The export seems to missing a response header (quick fix), and the print
button returns an error, but as soon as I figure those out I'll post the code
here. Thanks again for your help. I'm also going to investigate the use of
the reflector to view code, thanks for the tip.
- Dave|||That's great Dave,
I'm glad that the information is of assistance.
Have a nice day!

Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version 9.00.1399.00

This view exist in IIs, report manager and all previews

I wish to view the HTML versions.

are you navigating to http://reportserver/reportserver ? if this is the case you will get a view as above, I suggest you navigate to http://reportserver/reports to get the publised nice html / CSS reports.|||

Nope, still getting problems,

Have uninstalled SQL Server completely plus .Net Framework and reinstalled all.

I still cannot get the reports page to display. The error that keeps appearing is shown below.

From the various messages I have read , I shouldn't be concerned by an occasional appearence of this error, however it is happening every time I try to view reports.

The report server is running and visible if I browse within IIS , but when I try with the Reports page, this is what I get.

The page will take forever to load , then this appears.

Server Error in '/Reports' Application.

Report Viewer Date Format..

Hi,

I have done a report using the reportviewer page, and placed it in my web application and the last thing i need to do is sort out the date formats, primarily to a UK time..

1. I want to display todays date on the page, but in the format "Wednesday, 4 April 2007". I seem to be able to get the various parts needed, but not put them together in the same textbox, could someone help me with the concatonation?

=WeekdayName(Weekday(DateValue(DateString)))

2. All the dates extracted from the database are in the format MM/dd/yyyy, and i need them to be in dd/MM/yyyy, i am completely lost on how to do this...

any help will be much appreciated, even if you could tell me where i can go look up the syntax for this markup

regards

Chris

check this for all posible date formats:http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8kb3ddd4.aspx

|||

cheers for the link, don't know why i was having such a hard time finding it..

anyway, all sorted now, in the end i didn't do any sort of concatenation, but instead just used =FormatDateTime(Now(), 1)

and the other days were as easy as putting dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm in the fomrat field, nice

cheers!

Report task?

Hello,
I'm not sure if this one should be in this forum. Anyway...
I need to build some reports in MS Word format. Is there are any way to
do that? It can probably can be done in Reporting Services, but how I can merge
these two tools in one project (solution) for example?
Thanks.You can have a SSRS project and a SSIS project in the same solution.

As an aside...you can also share data sources between those projects which is a handy feature.

-Jamie|||But how to do that? I couldn't any way (via set of menues) to add SSRS to SSIS solution.|||

Metal_Fly wrote:

There is no such thing as an "SSIS solution", just an "SSIS Project". A solution is not limited to a single tool/technology.

I imagine that you can see your SSIS project in Project Explorer but because you only have 1 project in your solution the solution root is not being displayed.

If you click File-->New-->Project the "New Project" dialog will be displayed. This has a dropdown labelled "Solution" in which you should select "Add To Solution". This will add your new project (which can be a SSRS project) to the existing solution and the solution root will be displayed as you would hope.

Hope this helps.

-Jamie|||Ok, thanks I got it. :))

So, back to my first question. How report can be converted to MS Word format (file)?|||Reporting Services does not natively support rendering reports as MS Word Documents. This is outlined in the following Q&A for Reporting Services 2005.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/SQL/community/webcasts/ReportingServicesQandA.aspx
You'll either need to code it yourself, purchase a third party component, or change to another output format.
The easiest solution would be to change to the PDF output format.
If you really need to have the report in Word format, you could try saving the report as MHTML and renaming the extension to ".doc". I won't guarantee that the report will be formatted correctly because your essentially opening a webpage in Word. This will only really work in Word >= 2000.
You could also try using Office Automation to build the report. Without attempting it myself, I would guess that this would not be easily integrated into a Report Services Solution, since you would have to build a .Net Assembly to query the DB and build the word doc.
Larry|||Ok... Thanks.
Last question. How I can include report part in SSIS package itself? So the report can be executed on package flow. Let's say I have 2 files. I do some data manipulation and then for every file I need report.|||

There is currently no out-of-the-box task that allows you to do this. You could roll your own or use a script task.

-Jamie|||Ok, if I use script task, how I reference to report?|||

You can't use SSIS to push data to SSRS. So you'll need to use a temporary table to store data, and then ren the report (e.g. using script task).

What is usually done is the opposite - schedule a SSRS report and use SSIS as data source for the report. This way you can avoid any temporary table.

|||Or, for SSRS reports, one can programmatically generate the reports as .RDL files. BOL contains a summary of this approach, along with a tutorial and code. Start at "Generating Report Definition Language Programmatically."

However, to return to your original request for Word reports, you do not want to automate an Office application in an unattended package. The better solution would be to generate WordML XML files. Although a WordML file is a frightening site to behold -- and many XML editors refuse to display and format it for you because of nested and recursive entries -- the bare minimum of XML elements required is fairly manageable.

You could accomplish this by selecting your data FOR XML and putting your conversion logic in an XSLT stylesheet, or more procedurally/verbosely by writing the data out one row and column at a time by using the .NET's XmlTextWriter. I have a sample using the latter approach to load a SQL table and write it out as an Excel XML worksheet, or a table in a Word XML document. Someday in "spare time" I'd like to adapt this as a custom SSIS destination.

-Doug|||Thanks everyone. I will try to to use BOL (Generating RDL programmatically).
Keep you informed on my progress/regress. :))|||Ok, here is another thing. One option for report in Preview mode
is to export it to Adobe format (.pdf).
How I can do that programatically? In VB.NET for examp.
|||You will need to invoke the Reporting Services web service and in particular its Render method, which accepts a format argument. See the Reporting Services Programming section of BOL, almost right under the Integration Services Programming section.

If you need additional details on Reporting Services programming, you'll probably get more detailed responses in a Reporting Services newsgroup.

Off to Thanksgiving dinner!

-Doug|||Seems too complicated and there is definately lack of info how to do that
on practice. But thanks anyway.

Report Service 2005 parameter at Date

I set Report Parameters ,

Properties

Name : StartDate

Data Type : DateTime

Prompt : StartDate

Default values = Format(Today(),"yyyy/MM/dd")

But have error (An error occurred during local report rpocessing. The properly "DefaultValue" of report parameter 'EndDate' doesn't have the expected type.)

The Result show : like "2007/05/01"

Thanks help

Moving to SQL Server Reporting Services forum. This is not an SSIS issue.|||

Hi,

I think the Format function converts your value into String datatype & that is why you're getting the error.

Just use CDate of your expression, that is:

CDate(Format(Today(),"yyyy/MM/dd")

That should get rid of the error.

-Aayush.

|||

=CDate(Format(Today(),"yyyy/MM/dd")

had error

[rsCompilerErrorInExpression] The Value expression for the report parameter ‘endDate’ contains an error: [BC30198] ')' expected.

Thanks help

|||

Oops.. I missed out a bracket Smile Sorry for that.

Try =CDate(Format(Today(),"yyyy/MM/dd"))

-Aayush

|||Thanks You very much|||

Thanks all

The command is right, but I look in client pc, i see the date is "06/11/2007"

The =Cdate(format(today(),"yyyy/MM/dd")) could not work.

|||You're right I overlooked the fact that CDate converts it back to the default date format. So this fix does not work. Actually the expression =Format(Today(),"yyyy/MM/dd") would work but it would require you to change the Data Type of the parameter from 'DateTime' to 'String'. So I don't think it is very feasible.|||

Thanks

But not work

Report Server Subscription e-mail in MS Word format

I am wanting to set-up a subscription to e-mail my reports in MS Word format (either .doc or .rtf) and I do not have the option on my company's report server version.

I have read that it is possible, though I don't have the option. Is this a change to report server, or maybe is our version not updated?

I can e-mail the report out in the following formats:

XML File with report data

CSV (comma delimited)

TIFF File

Acrobat (PDF) file

Web Archive (default)

Excel

Let me know if I am just expecting too much, or if there is something that needs to be updated on our report server.

Thank you,

T.J. Bernard

I have a SQL Report published to the report server, and set-up to e-mail to select users. The users have requested this report appear in an MS Word format (.doc or .rtf). According to a book I have, this is possible, but on our report server we do not have this option.

The options we have are:

XML File and Report Data

CSV (comma delimited)

TIFF File

Acrobat (PDF) file

Web Archive (default)

Excel

Is there some update that needs to be run to our server to allow this format? Can it be programmed some how?

Let me know.

Thank you,

T.J. Bernard

TJ Barnard,

Sorry MSWord is not a format for exporting in SQL Reporting service unless you purchase a Third Party Product.

Report save sa PDF formate problem?

Hi All:
When i am trying to save the report (http) as PDF format, how can i make
sure the format is what i want?
Becuase currently what i got is that it splits report to two pages by saving
PDF, and each half as one page, which is actually one page content.
Any helpf will be appreciated.
Cheers
NickYou need to check the width of your report + width of the margins. If this
is more than the page width, your report will be split over two pages. It's
very annoying, as sometimes you are only off by a few pixels. If it looks
good, try adding borders to all containers, and see if any of them just
dynamically expand when running the report. I find that if I put a textbox
on a matrix, it sometimes expands a lot more than I expected it to.

I actually did set the width of my report so that my report can print out
properly , just fit one page size. but it doesn't work save as PDF, which
still split to two pages.
thanks
