Report Wizard Error on SP

Stepping through the Report Wizard to create a new report, the second step
"Design the Query" I entered my SP name. When I click next I get the
following error.
"There is an error in the query. Line 1: Incorrect syntax near
'STORED_PROCEDURE_NAME""
I ran the SP in Query Analyzer and works fine.
The Shared Data Source tested good for the connection.Mike,
Why I think this happens is that the development environment is parsing
the stored procedure to try and determine the resultset that will be
coming back. If it can't, it just gives up and returns the error
message. I've had this happen on procs that use temp tables primarily.
There are a several of ways to handle this.
1. Don't use the wizzard. Manually build your data source, manually key
in the column names for the result set. Some will advocate never using
the wizzard, but don't throw the baby out witht he bathwater...
2. Try entering the proc exec statement with any required parameters:
exec myproc 0, 'parm2'
once you get through the wizzard, change the data set from using the
Command Type of "Text" to use "StoredProcedure", and specify the
parameter(s)/values on the parameter tab.
3. Modify your procedure to return an empty result set that matches
what is normally returned. default your parameter(s) to Null and add a
check for @.parameter = null in the body of the proc. if it is null,
return the empty result set and return. This will give the wizzard
what it is looking for. One technique that worked for me was to
rewrite the proc so that any SELECT ... INTO statements that create and
populate temp tables are changed to explicit table creates and insert
statements. Using table variables instead of temp tables is also an
option, as the development environment parser seems to ignore them when
trying to determine the result set.
Hope this helps!

Report window opens, remains blank

I am trying to open reports through an existing application. When I click the button to run the report, the new window opens, appears to be trying to load (the windows logo in the top corner is flowing, the hourglass is present), and then stops. I am left with a blank window, no report, and no error message.

I am able to view and run the reports through the Report Server. Other users are able to run the reports through the application.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Michelle

I found a solution. I had Adobe Reader 6.0 installed (still not sure why it wasn't working with that). I uninstalled this and installed the latest version of Adobe Reader (8.1), and it worked.

report viewer control wont display report !

Hi friends
am trying to display reports from my report server in report view controls. following is my code in a button click

reportviewer1.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = {http://localhost/reportserver};
reportviewer1.ServerReport.ReportPath = "\customer Details"
reportviewer1.RefreshReport();

its not giving my any error not displays any report!!
but if i set same info in design mode to report viewer control it works nicely!
whats missing here ?
Thanks for your help.finally figured out .following is what needs to be done

reportviewer1.ProcessingMode = Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ProcessingMode.Remote;
reportviewer1.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = new System.Uri(@."http://localhost/reportserver");
reportviewer1.ServerReport.ReportPath = "\customer Details"
reportviewer1.RefreshReport();

Report Viewer control ignores parameters

I have a Report Viewer control on an asp.net page. The report shows the
parameters. When I choose a value from the drop down and then click on "View
report", the screen gets refreshed and the parameters are reset. It's like
no parameters have been selected from the drop down and no data is shown. If
I run the same report from report manager, or from VS, everything works. Has
anybody had this issue?
Thanks,

You might want to check your parameter mappings to the main
datasource. It sounds like there's a breakdown there somewhere. Also,
make sure that you are not receiving an error in the database
connection string, etc. Hope this helps.

Report subscription email Report Delivery Options

Is it possible to make this screen to link to exchange to i can look people's addresses up when i click on "To:" like i do in outlook.

Not out of the box. You might be able to do so by building a custom delivery extension and implementing ISubscriptionBasedUIUserControl to pull back your email addresses and pre-populate them in a combo-box you show in the Report Manager. This should work in theory, but I've never done it myself.

report starts processing immediately

Hello,
my report starts processing immediately when I switch to preview window in
VS (or click on it in the Web Browser).
I know it's because it has some string parameters (with list of available
values and default value defined) & 2 datetime parameters that allow null
values. When I remove default values or uncheck "allow null value" the
report waits untill I specify params. I suppose it is not convenient to work
with. Happily, my report calculates fast.
Are you going to fix this in the future releases?fix what?
This isn't desired behavior?

any other period that the user can specify (the fisrt two options is for
subscription). I'm creating 3 params: period type (last week, last month,
other) and two datetime parameters -- start date, end date (checking "allow
null value" to use them in subscriptions. Did I do anything wrong? May be
there is a better way?

because I have assigned defaults to the parameters does not mean I want it
to execute without any intervention on the users part. They should need to
click, hit enter. I.e. they should have to do the same thing they do after
selecting a parameter for the report to run. So, I did as you did. I leave
at least one report without a default so it waits for user interaction
before running.

or not when the parameters are all valid.
In my case - after the user has selected all the parameters, he still
has to click 'view report' in the browser. I wish I could set it that
any parameter he changes, as long they are valid... execute the query.
My queries are small.. and go to OLAP... so are very quick.
People like to see action without much effort!!
And of course - sometimes it is better to click the view report -
specially if the query is large...

Report service and automatically creating a PDF report.

woundering if there's a way for the user to automatically create a PDF report
via a report button.
Currently when users click the report button the users web interface opens
(would like to not the the web interface just create the PDF without any
interaction) then the user is prompted to open/saved/cancel.
Is it possible to click on the so called report button and automatically
create the PDF? no dialog boxes appering just create the PDF?
Is this a workstation issue with internet exploier?
Running the 2000 version of SQL & it's counter part of reporting services.
All workstations all XP Pro Sp2
MikeHi Mike,
Well I'm using RS 2005 and all the latest stuff here, so I'm not sure
if it'll work but here goes. From a website, my users click a button
and I then do this in C# my code :
//*******************************
string url;
int idStage =3D Convert.ToInt32(lblIdStage.Text);
int annee =3D Convert.ToInt32(lblAnnee.Text);
int idTrimestreAdmission =3D
Convert.ToInt32(lblIdTrimestreAdmission.Text);
url =3D
"http://xxxxx.xxxxx.ca/ReportServer?/Rapport_xxxx/Etxxxge";
url +=3D "&rs:Format=3DPDF";
url +=3D "&idStage=3D" + idStage;
url +=3D "&annee=3D" + annee;
url +=3D "&idTrimestreAdmission=3D" + idTrimestreAdmission;
url +=3D "&idDomaineFormation=3D" +
Convert.ToInt32(Session["IdDomaineFormation"]);
Response.Redirect(url);
//*******************************
This basically pop up a acrobat reader with my report in it.
Hope it helps, cheers.

Report Server Password

I am in a panic right about now. We had to change the Admin (server) password and it is working fine to log on to Windows, but when I click on IE and navigate to the report server, it is asking me for the old password still. I am new to SRS, so I am learning as I go. I found some threads on using the rsconfig.exe and I fiddled around in it and now (in addition to requesting the old password to log on to the report server) all of the reports I created have a user name and password field that requires the SA password for connecting to the data source.

Is there any way I can fix this or do I just need to uninstall SRS from the server and re-install it? I found the following thread, but am a little skiddish about doing anything else in light of the current state I put the report server in.

https://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1031391&SiteID=1

Any suggestions?I got it, amd it was actually pretty simple. I just had to delete the folders from the Report Server (the ones you see when you go to the http://) and then re-build them.
