Report Viewer Redistribution

I am creating a .NET WinForm app and would like to include the files required for the ReportViewer component (SP1). Can someone tell me where I can find these files? Also, can I simply drop these files in the folder where the rest of my app is going to reside, or does an installation have to take place?

Thanks - Amos.

http://prologika.com/CS/blogs/blog/archive/2007/03/27/report-viewer-sp1-redistributables.aspx|||

Teo,

Is the ReportViewer.Exe file the only alternative I have if I want to install the Viewer as part of my application? I would rather not force my uses to install my application and then install ReportViewer.Exe as a separate install step.

Amos.

|||You can drop the ReportViewer assemblies in your application bin folder.|||

Teo,

That was the point of my original question. What are all the required assemblies, and where are they? When I ran the ReportViewer.exe, it installed the assemblies but I couldn't tell what they were or where they went.

Amos.

|||

I appologize for missing your point. Go to GAC (C:\Windows\assembly). The assemblies whose names start with Microsoft.ReportViewer.* are the ReportViewer assemblies. There are six of them but depends on the your application technology you won't need all of them, e.g. you won't need the WebDesign and WebForms assemblies with Windows Forms applications.

To extract the assemblies from GAC you can use the GACViewer utility.

Teo,

Thank you very much!

report viewer newbie

hi,

i'm a newbie in using report viewer and having a tough time now building a web app in c# and asp.net.. hope someone can help me on this.

i'm using VS2005 and RS2005.

i've tried looking at the sample RssNewsReader but i have problem running it. error message : Could not find type 'RssNewsReader.ChannelInfo'.

i think this is because i don't have system.ComponentModel in the reference and i don't have this dll file in my system as well, therefore i could not add it in.

i tried looking at sample in odetocode website but the sample wasn't built using VS2005, so i encounter problems changing the syntax.

can someone direct me to a sample i can use?

i want to know how to set parameter and filter the result according to the parameter selected and display it on the report viewer (using web form).

thanks!

I have exactly the same question

I would be happy to see some example of using the report viewer

control used in 2005.

you can get samples from www.gotreportviewer.com and check out Visual Studio Report Control forum. More discussion on this topic there.

report viewer keep showing report is being generated

hi all,

i developed a web app with embedded report viewer to show the reports (server report). everything works alright. i created a setup file to install it at another machine. everything looks ok except that when i want to view the report, it will always show 'Report is being generated' for a very long time when it only takes a few seconds when i view it on report server.

i found the following warning in event viewer (application):

ReportViewer1.ServerReport.Refresh();

However, I still get sometimes the message "ASP.NET session expired" or something similar.

Report Viewer for a Windows application

Is there a report viewer for a window application? I need to plug a report
into a Vb.Net windows app.
Thanks.Yes, there is a ReportViewer.dll which is great for ASP.NET applications.
This is installed in the folder YoursQLInstallfolder\Reporting
Services\Samples\Applications\ReportViewer.
But for windows applications why not use the web browser control? Add it to
your Windows project toolbox by doing Tools,Add/Remove Toolbox Items select
COM Components tab, then put a checkbox against Microsoft Web Browser
(filename c:\windows\system32\shdocvw.dll). This adds it to your toolbox. Now
add it to your Windows form; the default name for the control when added is
AxWebBrowser1.
Now you can do:
axWebBrowser1.Navigate("http://MyServer/ReportServer?" & reportPath)
for example:
axWebBrowser1.Navigate("http://MyServer/ReportServer?/Sample
Reports/Territory Sales Drilldown")

Is there security problems with exporting?

bytes that you can write to a file. The Render method accepts a format
parameter.
This is what you need to do:
1) add the Reporting Services web reference to your project. The web
reference is http://Yourserver/ReportServer/ReportService.asmx
when you add it, you have to give it a name, such as RServer.
2) At the top of your form window code add:
Imports YourProjectName.RServer
Imports System.IO
3) declare and create an instance of the Reporting Service. I like to do it
at form level, within the Form1 class:
dim rs as New ReportingService
4) Assuming you are using code behind button to export to excel:
private sub Button1_Click(...)
dim historyid as string = nothing
dim deviceinfo as string = nothing
dim paramvalues() as ParameterValue = nothing
dim credentials() as DataSourceCredentials = nothing
dim showhide as string = nothing
dim encoding as string = nothing
dim mimetype as string = nothing
dim warnings() as Warning = nothing
dim paramsused() as ParameterValue
dim streamids() as string = nothing
dim myRenderedReport as byte() = _
rs.Render("/Sample Reports/Territory Sales DrillDown", "EXCEL", historyid,
deviceinfo, paramvalues, credentials, showhide, encoding, mimetype,
paramsused, warnings, streamids)
dim fs as FileStream = File.OpenWrite("c:\MyFile.xls")
fs.Write(myRenderedReport, 0, myRenderedReport.Length())
fs.Close()
End Sub
you can do:
dim myRenderedReport as byte[] = TheWebService.Render(FullReportPath, "EXCEL")
dim myFileStream as filestream

Whidbey). Whidbey Beta 1 does not have the ReportViewer control, but Beta 2,
scheduled for early 2005, will contain the control. There will be a WinForms
version and a WebForms version. The ReportViewer control will have built-in
ability to process and render reports, which means a Report Server is
unnecessary. If a Report Server is available then the controls will be able
to connect to the Report Server to view reports that are stored and
processed on the Report Server. Licensing has not been finalized, but we are
looking into making this control freely redistributable.

Report Services Printing from WebBrowser Tool

I have WinForm app that includes a WebBrowser tool from the VisualStudio2005
toolbox. I load a Reporting Services Report into the WinForm's webBrowser
window as follows:
webBrowser1.Navigate(new Uri(reporturl));
This works great, except for when I try to print, I get the following message:
"An error occured trying to get the current window."
Any suggestions for getting a Reporting Service report to print from within
a WinForm's WebBrowser?
Thanks,
--
RandyHello Randy,
If you access the report via the http://, could you print it correctly?
Also, please try to remove the RSClientPrint Class in the IE and check
whether this issue appeared or not.
Remove the RSClientPrint Class from IE:
Tools >> Internet Options >> General Tab >> Settings >> View Objects >>
Right-click
RSClientPrint Class and choose Remove.
If you try to debug the application, what error did you get?
Please let me know the result so that I can provide further assistance.
Sincerely,
Wei Lu

> If you access the report via the http://, could you print it correctly?
If I access the report using http:// in Internet Explorer, it works
perfectly. If I access the report using http:// in the webBrowser tool in my
WinForm, it gives an error.
> Also, please try to remove the RSClientPrint Class in the IE and check

I removed the RSClientPrint Class in IE. I get the same results as above.
Printing works in IE, but not in the webBroswer tool in my WinForm.
> If you try to debug the application, what error did you get?
The first error dialog box is as follows:
Print Error:
An error occured trying to get the current window.
<OK>
The second error dialog box:
Error
A Runtime Error has occured.
Do you wish to Debug?
Error: Could not complete the operation due to error 8007f305.
<Yes>
Unable to attach to the crashing process. A debugger is already attached.
<OK>
All thoughts appreicated...

This is a known issue in the Reporting Services 2005. Please update your
