The Report Server was previously installed. A backup of the encryption key
had been taken but the password is unknown. The Reporting Services had to be
re-installed but the existing database was kept. Now when I go to Report
Services Configuration the Initialize option has a Red X. I click on it and
get the following error message:
"There was an error while switching panels. The most likely cause is an
error retrieving WMI properties. The exception details are: The encrypted
value for the 'LogonCred' configuration setting cannot be decrypted.
(rsFailedToDecryptConfigInformation)"
I tried to figure out what the password to the encryption key was and tried
to restore it, but that has so far been unsuccessful. I tried running the
rsconfig utility and when I put in all the correct parameters, it says it was
successful but still the problem persists. I have even tried deleting all
the encrypted data using the rskeymgmt utility. This resulted in me
receiving the same error message as above (LogonCred cannot be decrypted).
Can someone please help me as the Report Server will be non-functional until
I am able to repair this problem.
Thanks,
JamesIf possible, can you do a clean re-install. Clean means delete the report
databases in the server as well and the directories etc.. basically
everything associated with reporting services. Warning: Do this if you are
installing for the first time and not on production or development or testing
servers etc... because deleting will delete everything.
